Woodrow Wilson Smith

Killed at Utah Beach

Records show that Woodrow Wilson Smith was killed on Utah Beach during the Invasion of Normandy (France).

Born on February 9, 1918, Smith was living on W. Quilley Street with his wife Ruth, in the 1940, census. His occupation was listed as Laborer, Moving Transportation. Smith was a member of the 121st Infantry, 8th Division in the Army-Air Force. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Little else is known about the Griffin resident. Records do show he was Killed in Action on Utah Beach, Rennes, France, on July 12, 1944.

A plaque will be installed in Griffin to honor our Hometown Hero.
