Hugh Dorsey Johnson was born around 1918, in Milner to Samuel and Minnie Futral Johnson. Johnston served in the US Army. His name Johnson, is misspelled on the World War II, Monument in Veterans Park, as Johnston (with a t).

Little is known about Sgt. Johnston other than he was married to Dorothy Howell of Kerens, Texas while stationed at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He was in the 48th Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division. The couple had a son, Hugh Glendon Johnson, who was born, January 30, 1943.

Sgt. Johnson was Killed in Action on December 7, 1944. For his gallantry in action, Sgt. Johnson’s family was awarded both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star military medals. He is buried in the American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands, Grave 6, Plot N, Row 12. Information from the cemetery shows his residence as the State of Georgia.
