Herman W. Smith

Carpenter by Trade

Born in 1918, Herman W. Smith’s father, Thomas Smith, lived at 737 W. Quilly St., Griffin. Private Smith joined the U.S. Army on November 7, 1942 and took his oath of allegiance at Ft. McPherson. He would be assigned to the 32nd Division of the 127th Infantry.

Smith was a Carpenter by trade. It is not known if he used this trade during his military time or not.

Private Smith died August 3, 1944 and is buried at Ft. McKinley in the Philippines.
