Aubry A.R. Wynn

KIA, Buried in France

Aubry A. R. Wynn was born around 1898 in Molena, Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 19 years old on February 8, 1917. Reporting to Columbus, Ohio for training, young Wynn quickly rose through the ranks to become a Private First Class.

He was sent to France to fight the Germans on June 14, 1917. Less than a year later, on June 1, 1918, he was killed on the battlefield. His mother, Mrs. Ester Wynn, who lived at 203 9th Street in Griffin, was notified of her son’s death. PFC Wynn is buried in the Somme American Cemetery, Bony, Picardie, France.

Although Private First Class Wynn did not come home alive, a community now honors the World War I, hero.

An individual plaque honoring Aubrey A.R. Wynn will be installed in Griffin’s Historic District sponsored by Eyesore, Inc.; Garrett Massey and Juan Sotolongo.
