Honor Our KIA Dedication Ceremony

May 24, 2015

12pm-1:30pm: Lunch catered by Monkey’s Uncle Grill at the Coke Building

2pm-3:15pm: Dedication Ceremony held at the Griffin Auditorium on 234 East Taylor Street:

This years program will open with the posting of the colors by the Griffin High School JROTC, pledge to the flag, and National Anthem.
Local citizens who have contributed time and money to this project will be recognized.

The debut performance of the Griffin-Spalding County School’s Elementary Honor Chorus will sing an unforgettable selection of patriotic songs including “God Bless America”, “America the Beautiful” and a medley of the hymns of each branch of the military services. During which all veterans in the audience are asked to stand.

Twenty individual bronze plaques will be dedicated honoring nineteen men and one woman from Spalding County who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country from WWI to the present. Next to each plaque will be a brief biography of that KIA. Families and friends of each lost hero are asked to stand and be recognized.

Using interviews with families and friends of seven local KIA, Southern Crescent Technical College has created a documentary that tells not only the story of those lost heroes but the universal story of all young men and women who have died in the service of America. This is the first time this documentary will be shown.

We are honored to have as the featured speaker, at this, our first memorial weekend ceremony, distinguished American and retired four-star General William Livsey.

Concluding the program, local artist Eric Moye will sing “All Gave Some – Some Gave All” followed by trumpeter Randy Rawlings playing “Taps”.

Closing comments and dismissal by Event Chairwoman Judge Rita Cavanaugh.

3:15 – 4:00 Visitors opportunity to take photos, inspect plaques and read brief biography of each KIA.
